Reflected sunshine

Reflected sunshine

These days creative people are going to great lengths to apply different paint jobs to their cars, trucks, and motorcycles, and, to a degree, to their boats. They started in the fifties with colorful flames on their hot rods, and today you can find finishes that change color as you walk around them, depending on how the light is striking the paint relative to your position.

It might be difficult to accomplish, but this boat is sporting a look I’d like to emulate in a finish for my boat. The sun is reflecting off gentle wavelets and “painting” the bow with undulating spangles of sunlight.

I wouldn’t be surprised if, not long in the future, you’ll be able to buy a boat with coatings that can be programed to show even the moving image of these reflections. That will be the newest look, at least until a still newer look comes along!

I love that photo, Jim. Remove the anchor and imagine that pattern blown up to cover an entire wall – the most serene wallpaper ever. Of course, it doesn’t compare to the real life image with the sun swirls dancing across the hull of the boat, but not all of us can live on the water all the time. Thanks for the post.
