Creative photos and essays from the San Juan Islands

Visitors from America

Summer in the San Juans often involves visitors from what we call America, or Off-Island, or Out of State-of-Mind.     On a late July, early August visit my partner in photographic expression, daughter Jamie, is being creative with her Canon 5D mark II DSLR at the Port of Friday Harbor.  Loving father that I am, I’m doing the daddy thing; taking a picture of her taking a picture.

Jamie grew up on San Juan Island, has many fond memories, friends and family here, and loves to visit, but the mountains called to her and she has lived for over ten years in Telluride, Colorado, an historic old mining town in a box canyon amongst the San Juan mountains towering on three sides.   Perhaps technically she didn’t wander all that far from “San Juan,” and I’m proud that she too lives in a funky, extraordinary small town like Friday Harbor.
