Creative photos and essays from the San Juan Islands

Beach Flower

Thank goodness there are flowers that like to grow where others fear to tread.   On a San Juan Island beach uplands the sandy soil is home to beach grasses and this lovely wild version of a sweet pea.   The violet and pink blossoms seem to be yelling ‘Look at meeeee!’ amid all the green and gray of grass and wave tossed logs and other driftwood.

This is just one more treat from a day at the beach:  The smells of the salt air, the logs baking in the sun.  The sounds of gulls overhead, the waves coming ashore, the wind in the trees, and grandchildren bubbling over with youthful glee and energy as they build up memories for a lifetime.

Photo location:  Jackson’s Beach, east side of San Juan Island.
